About Mrs. Kinion
Teaching has been a passion of mine as long as I can remember. Most of us that are teachers have those stories of teaching our siblings on old chalkboards, and I definitely had those times. My sisters both learned multiplication long before they were in fourth grade, because I had taught them in our make-shift school in the basement.
Now, many years later, I have realized my teaching dreams. I graduated from Emporia State in 2000 with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Math. My first job was teaching 5th grade at Heusner Elementary in Salina, Kansas. After a year of fifth grade, I moved to fourth grade and taught there for 9 years. During that time, I achieved my Master's of Arts in Education from Baker University. Later, I spent 2 years in Second Grade and 2 year teaching At-Risk Reading.
In 2014 an opportunity presented itself that I couldn't pass up. I had served for many years on my school's technology team and was always trying to implement technology in my classroom. So in 2014, I accepted the position of Curriculum Technologist for our district. Now, I my focus is coaching teachers to teach students 21st Century Skills. The adventure has been amazing so far!
My greatest achievement are the two amazing girls I have! My husband, Brian, and I have been married since 2003. He is a mechanical engineer who works for GE here in Salina. He keeps me balanced for sure! My oldest daughter, Dara, is 9 and in 3rd grade. My youngest daughter, Kristen, is 6 and in 1st grade. I couldn't survive without the love and support of all 3 of them. Thankfully, they teach me so much more than I can teach them!
